Important: this is a general formula, not your university's exact cut-off
Nigerian universities do not all use the same formula or the same weighting between JAMB and Post-UTME. This calculator uses the widely cited (JAMB score ÷ 8) + (Post-UTME score ÷ 2) formula, which many institutions follow, but some weight JAMB and Post-UTME differently, or add O'Level results. Always confirm the exact aggregate formula and cut-off mark on your target university's admission portal before relying on this result.
How the JAMB aggregate score is calculated
The common JAMB aggregate formula divides your UTME score by 8 (converting the 400-point scale to 50 points) and your Post-UTME score by 2 (converting the 100-point scale to 50 points), then adds them for a score out of 100. Example: a UTME score of 280 and a Post-UTME score of 70 give 280÷8 + 70÷2 = 35 + 35 = 70.0.
Aggregate = (JAMB ÷ 8) + (Post-UTME ÷ 2)
How do I calculate my JAMB aggregate score?
Divide your JAMB UTME score by 8 and your Post-UTME score by 2, then add the two results together for an aggregate out of 100. Example: a UTME score of 280 and a Post-UTME score of 70 give 280/8 + 70/2 = 35 + 35 = 70.0.
Steps to calculate your JAMB aggregate score
- Find your JAMB UTME score, which is out of 400.
- Find your Post-UTME (post-University Tertiary Matriculation Examination) score from your chosen institution, which is typically out of 100.
- Divide your UTME score by 8 to convert it to a 50-point scale.
- Divide your Post-UTME score by 2 to convert it to a 50-point scale.
- Add the two converted scores together to get your aggregate score out of 100.
Formula
Aggregate = (JAMB UTME score / 8) + (Post-UTME score / 2), out of 100
- JAMB UTME score = your Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination score, 0-400
- Post-UTME score = your chosen university's post-UTME screening score, typically 0-100
Example aggregate calculations
| UTME score | Post-UTME score | Aggregate (out of 100) |
|---|
| 280 | 70 | 70.0 |
| 400 | 100 | 100.0 |
| 0 | 0 | 0.0 |
| 180 | 55 | 50.0 |
| 320 | 80 | 80.0 |
Frequently asked questions
Does every Nigerian university use this exact formula?
No. This is a commonly cited general formula, but universities set their own aggregate weighting between JAMB, Post-UTME and sometimes O'Level results, and their own cut-off marks per course. Always check your specific institution's admission portal or JAMB CAPS guidance for the formula that applies to you.
What is a good JAMB aggregate score?
There is no single answer — competitive courses like Medicine at top universities often require aggregates well above 70, while less competitive courses may admit lower scores. The cut-off depends on the course, the university, and the number of applicants that year.
Is Post-UTME the same as JAMB?
No. JAMB (UTME) is the national entrance exam administered once per admission cycle. Post-UTME is a separate screening exercise conducted by individual universities after JAMB, using their own test, screening, or a combination of JAMB score and O'Level results.
Can my O'Level results affect my aggregate?
Some universities incorporate O'Level grades into the aggregate formula in addition to JAMB and Post-UTME scores. This calculator only covers the widely used two-component formula; check your target institution if O'Level results are part of their calculation.
This calculator uses a general, widely cited aggregate formula. It is not an official JAMB or university tool, does not reflect course-specific or institution-specific weighting, and does not include O'Level results some universities factor in. Confirm the exact formula and cut-off mark with your target university before relying on this result for admission decisions.
