How do I calculate days until a date?
To calculate days until a target date, subtract today's date from the target date and count the calendar days between them. Example: if today is July 16, 2026, the days until December 25, 2026 is 162 days, shown as D-162.
Steps to calculate days until a target date
- Set today's date and the target date to midnight so partial hours do not affect the count.
- Subtract today's date from the target date to get the difference in days.
- If the result is positive, the target is in the future; label it D-minus that number (D-162).
- If the result is negative, the target has passed; label it D-plus the absolute value (D+30).
- To count days between two arbitrary dates instead of counting from today, subtract the earlier date from the later one the same way.
