Fortune Cookie Generator

Crack open a cookie to reveal today's saying.

About this fortune cookie generator

This fortune cookie generator picks one of over 60 original random fortunes using your browser's cryptographically secure random number generator. Fortune cookies are a lighthearted tradition of pairing a short saying with a sweet treat, popularized at Chinese-American restaurants in the early 20th century.

In "once a day" mode, the same saying reappears if you open another cookie later the same day, tracked locally in your browser. Switch to "unlimited" to crack open as many cookies as you like in one sitting.

How does the once-a-day fortune mode work?

In once-a-day mode, the tool checks today's date against the last date you opened a cookie in your browser's local storage; if it's a new day, it randomly picks a fresh saying and remembers it, and if you open another cookie later the same day, it shows you that same saying again instead of a new one.

Steps to use the fortune cookie generator

  1. Choose "once a day" for a single daily saying, or "unlimited" to open as many as you like.
  2. Click "crack open a cookie" to reveal a saying.
  3. In once-a-day mode, opening again on the same date shows the identical saying you already got.
  4. Switch to unlimited mode anytime to draw a fresh random saying on every click.
  5. Come back tomorrow in once-a-day mode for a newly picked saying.

How the daily lock works

If stored date = today's date, show the stored saying. Otherwise, pick a new random saying and store today's date with it.
  • Stored date = the date you last opened a cookie, saved in your browser's local storage
  • Random saying = one of over 60 original sayings chosen using the browser's cryptographically secure random number generator

Frequently asked questions

Why did I get the same saying when I opened another cookie today?

You're in once-a-day mode, which intentionally shows the same saying for the rest of the calendar day once you've opened your first cookie, tracked by a date stored in your browser. Switch to unlimited mode if you want a different saying right away.

Are the sayings pulled from an external database or API?

No. All sayings are an original set of over 60 short lines built directly into the tool, and one is picked at random in your browser — nothing is fetched from a server each time you open a cookie.

Does this track my activity or send data anywhere?

No. The only thing saved is which day you last opened a cookie and which saying it was, stored locally in your browser's storage; nothing is transmitted to a server, and no personal data is collected.

Can two different browsers or devices show different sayings on the same day?

Yes. Since the daily lock is stored locally per browser, opening the tool on your phone and your laptop on the same day can show two different randomly picked sayings, since each device tracks its own local storage independently.

Fortune cookie sayings are for light entertainment only, not advice or prediction; the once-a-day lock is based on your device's local date and storage, so clearing your browser data or switching devices will reset or change which saying you see.
